Aleksander Isak

Seeing this thread for the first time, still hard to believe there were those who honestly thought Jackson was as good as or had better potential than Isak.

Hang your heads in shame chaps!!
lol - amazing isnt it?!

@TheCeleryKing 20th June: AND why would anyone want Isak anyways? Jackson is just as good and probably better in the long run.

@Simplymo 26 Nov: If going by stats...then I'd take Jackson over isak any day.

@Ukraine Bolt 28 Nov: £100m is a lot for a striker to come and play back up to Jackson.

@WhiteWall 28 Nov: Very similar in profile as well (to Jackson) and Isak is far more injury prone

@PhilH930 Dec 3: I don’t think he is an upgrade on Jackson. Isak plays great with a little more space, and his first season was great. But Jackson is offering more growth, and does more for the team

@Deino Dec 3: Stick with Jackson. He'll have his growing pains but he's getting there.

Sure there are more - these are just from the few pages of this thread.

28th November.

Jackson had twice the goals and assists, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

As I said at the time - the stats were irrelevant, because anyone watching should have been able to see that he was a hopeless footballer. I also pointed out at that time, that literally half his goals were effectively meaningless and made no difference to the outcome of the game. Only 6 at that stage either opened the scoring, drew us level, or were winners.

But we can argue the semantics of stats until the cows come home...but at the end of the day, the eyes dont lie. If it looks like turd, and smells like a turd...its probably Nicolas Jackson.

Technically the point I made is correct in that they are similar in profile and Isak at the back half of last season is the only time he was not out injured all the time. The point that Jackson is sh*te and Isak isn't kind of goes without saying.

I like Isak but he’s massively overpriced. A good season last season but his injury history alone means I wouldn’t even get to £100 million never mind £150 million.

The propensity of fans in England to elevate a player to “best in the world in his position” is laughable.

I thought he was injury prone but tbh, when you look at his appearances in the past few seasons, it was only the 22/23 season where he missed quite a few. Last season there was a few times, where he had a 'late fitness test' but would end up playing but he played 34 league games last season. Season before he played 30 league games and then season before he played 22 league games, but he joined the team late from Sociedad that window. Season before this when he was at Sociedad, he rarely would miss a game. 21/22-32 games. 20/21-34 games. 2019/2020- 37 games

I’m not following closely, but the prospect of us signing Isak must be a million to one. He turns 26 soon, so is absolutely ancient in BlueCo’s eyes, and we’ve already signed two other strikers.

It is a bit bothering though that whilst I feel our 4th place finish and the two cups, especially the CWC have shown progress, I’m not convinced it’s that great a progress when the sides we’re trying to catch our making their own attempts to improve their sides.

I honestly believe Isak would give us the sharp point we’ve been missing. Delap has potential, but he’s got a long way to go. Pedro looks pretty good, and starts in my eyes, but I still see him as a 10/wide player/centre forward hybrid.

My comment didn't age well!!

To be fair we had a positive start to the season and Jackson was a good part of that. We haven't seen any improvement in finishing. That, combined with the offsides, indiscipline, and immaturity - well I only had to see the immediate impact of Pedro or Delap to remind me of what we were really missing.

The three dimensional chess play in my mind would see Isak go to Liverpool and us go and get Sesko. Sesko would be a completely different option to Delap or Pedro and would already have chemistry from working with Simons. Then with all of the forwards pretty much spoken for it could then squeeze Newcastle into taking Jackson form us.

If we see Nkunku being used as part of the deals somehow, then all the better. Can somebody make this happen please.

Jackson is just as good and probably better in the long run. . . .Well, can we get back to this in 5 years time? The long run.

I am very happy for Chelsea to move Jackson along. I am still not that convinced by Isak.

Jackson cant control or pass a ball. Send him to the glue factory.

I think he is leaving (fingers crossed). We are looking for some money for him. I am not sure the glue factory have much in their budget for Nico.

Why? Isn't 62 goals in 109 games for Newcastle over 3 seasons proof enough of his ability?

If we had Isak instead of Jackson last season, I don't see how we don't end up in top 3 and I think we would have finished ahead of Arsenal too.

Sesko is very overrated! Didn’t he ask Arsenal to insert a release clause not greater than 20% of the transfer fee into his contract? There is no way you are keeping the trio of Delap, Pedro & Sesko all happy. I also don’t think there is much difference in the attributes of Delap & Sesko.

Wasn't aware on the attitude point. I also think he is somewhat overrated, which is why I thought he could be part of a trio. I also thought his aerial ability would add a dimension that we don't have.

But fair point though.

Isaak was the best striker in the Premier league last 2 seasons, one of the best in Europe. How on earth you can be "not convinced " by him is beyond me.

His numbers are only matched by Haaland (and Salah, who's not a striker), but playing for a somewhat weaker team. It's like being "not convinced" that water is wet.
