Danny Harkins whose nickname was Eccles was one of the top men in the 60s 70s & 80s

He always used to wear a brown suede bomber jacket

He started arranging coaches to away games in the late 70s

The rumour was that he became a millionaire in the 80s through a hardwear business

I can remember being in a mob with him at Coventry in about 1969

It was a night match and we were in the Coventry end and Eccles was threatening any Chelsea fans who ran that he would have them

He was always prominent at away games
I knew of him in the early 80's ... I think he was on the England scene at the time. .The chant' Eccles is our leader' springs to mind.

Or 'Icky' A flying jacket and goggles ring a bell, my memory may be a bit hazy but Bolton away when Walker saved us he tried to kick off.

Blimey! Are you back from your hols already, brimmie?

I was in the 'Blackbird' in Earls Court the night we won the double.

A lot of Chelsea and Rangers fans singing old songs, Tommy Baldwin and all that.

A different version of Ossie's 'Born is the King of Stamford Bridge' went on twice as long

as the one we all know.

I was hammered so can't remember the words, anyone know it?

Anyone got the tune to this ?

I know of Chelsea fans from 'back in the day' that still deny that this was ever sung! But I remember the whole shed singing this...

WALK ON *clap*clap*

WALK ON *clap*clap*

WITH HOPE *clap*clap*

IN YOUR HEARTS *clap*clap*

AND YOU'LL NE... *clap*clap*

...VER WALK *clap*clap*

ALONE *clap*clap*...etc

Really! Back in the days of red white and green scarves.

ive got it on video somewhere the shed in full voice singing it. ,think its one of the f.a.cup games against liverpool 78\82

Not sure if i told this one already....Harkins once had a coach to man unt....He decided we should park on the opposite corner to the ground (as it was then)..50 plus of us...MANY man utd lurking...His words were....ANYBODY RUNS>MAKE YOUR OWN WAY HOME..

Another time in the past , to avoid old bill , and because he was taking us hopefully into the popside at derby, he took us on what was for me ,one of the longest walks, around a town id ever done...successfull though

Apparently it was also sung when we played the European Cup Winners Cup.

Our version was very much staccato as opposed to a long drawn out scouse whine.

There was a time (late '60s/early '70s) when every club in the league used to sing the old show tune, which originally came from the 1945 musical "Carousel". Liverpool claimed the song as their own mainly because had been covered by Gerry & The Pacemakers.

The staccato version was a later development, and a sign that just about every other set of supporters was getting bored with it. This is the original (starts at around 3:30 and picks up again somewhere after the 7 minute mark):

Not my kind of thing by a long way but still infinitely preferable to the quasi-religious dirge sung at Anfield.

Now there's a man in touch with his feminine side! Admitting he has a knowledge of Showtunes! Hello Dolly!

No not quite. The term "show tune" is a piss take of scousers for hanging on to the f**king thing.

If i had the wings of a sparrow

if i had the arse of a crow

i'd fly over tottenham tomorrow

and sh*t on the bar stewards below
