Chants of old

There was a time (late '60s/early '70s) when every club in the league used to sing the old show tune, which originally came from the 1945 musical "Carousel". Liverpool claimed the song as their own mainly because had been covered by Gerry & The Pacemakers.

The staccato version was a later development, and a sign that just about every other set of supporters was getting bored with it. This is the original (starts at around 3:30 and picks up again somewhere after the 7 minute mark):

This was actually performed on the Last Night of the Proms last Saturday. That event has gone right downhill.

I knew of him in the early 80's ... I think he was on the England scene at the time. .The chant' Eccles is our leader' springs to mind.

Or 'Icky' A flying jacket and goggles ring a bell, my memory may be a bit hazy but Bolton away when Walker saved us he tried to kick off.
I walked round their ground before KO just behind Hickey and he had his arm bandaged (not from that morning's events). Someone said "Why'd you run Stephen?" and he said "I wanted to give them confidence". He always had a funny come back.

If i had the wings of a sparrow

if i had the arse of a crow

i'd fly over tottenham tomorrow

and sh*t on the bar stewards below
We sing this every Sat night in Melbourne while watching the Chels....also "We'll be running round Tottenham with our willys hanging out".....goes even better when there are some of them in the pub.
