There is an argument that had we kept Maresca we could of finished in a Champions League place after having a shambolic winter period. We've already done so before.

I honestly think fate has been fortunate for us. Had City not approached Maresca, we would've stuck with him and had he steered us to a Champions League place there would've been no Alonso and no "self reflection" from the owners/directors. We've seen Maresca's peak at it isn't good enough and the directors would've continued spending money on kids and mediocre players.

Probably would have been a much better strategy to make no comment at all and then go all in on the Alonso positive PR when he starts officially on 1st July.

Generally i would agree with you, because all i ever see from this mob is woke nonsense, PR bullsh*t, and a complete erosion of all standards. This is the first inkling from them that they possess a pair of gonads between them by calling the fcker out in public.

He adhered to the terms of his contract and reported the contact. Not a problem. The fact that he then came out with that snaky "worst 48 hours" comment on live Tv and then shortly followed that up with resigning with the intention of taking up a position where the incumbent was still gainfully employed is a pretty compelling, if somewhat circumstantial, case of breach of contract. What makes the whole scenario more sinister than just an approach by another club, is that there was no vacancy at the time the conversation was had.

I'm glad that the club have made this statement.

I have never been particularly impressed with the way that Maresca has conducted himself in public, from announcing to the world about the bomb squad and telling Ben Chilwell there was no place for him, despite then playing a formation that Chilwell could have played in. There have been numerous examples where he has said things, possibly in his mind being honest, but actually looking naive and contradictory to the world's press. It has now culminated in this, where his conduct has cost his new employer an embarrassing settlement when they already have a significant number of charges hanging over their heads and it has hit him in the pocket too.

For me, what is even more satisfying, is that everybody involved in football knows that nobody wants to be the guy after a legend. Everyone wants to be the guy after the guy. So to Moyes 2.0 or O'Farrell 2.0 i would say, enjoy Manchester for a year you tw@t, for sure.

 
I was happy to see the back of him and I do share the opinion of many that the football under him was largely turgid. He did weird sh*t and had plenty of bad results.

However, given there were also some good performances and wins and he had a dodgy squad and clearly didn’t have his heart in it, as much as I hope he fails at City, they are well organised as a club and have a lot of good players and loads of cash. It’s certainly not inconceivable that he does a good job there. I saw a stat earlier about us having more attacks or something than anyone else while he was in charge.

Let’s hope Alonso is as good as we seem to think he is and he gets given what players he needs to do whatever it is he’s going to do.

 
The fact that we managed to not only get City and Maresca to pay us money, but also to issue public statements corroborating the club's narrative shows how in the wrong City and Maresca were.

City and their army of lawyers have been thwarting the PL and its 115 charges, hard to believe they'd bend over for Chelsea is they weren't aware that they had done something really wrong.

Add £75m for Gusto in their mea culpa and all is forgiven.

Maresca suck bla2. I honestly don't care about this, he is gone.

But a manager willing to leave us in the middle of a season so he can coach elsewhere is a very bad sign

Absolutely a cut and dried case.

So much so that our lawyers likely wrote half of Maresca’s and City’s statements.

Credit where it is due. The owners can call this a big win even if they are still c**ts.

 
I support the club making a statement. It should be on public record and documented what Maresca was doing behind our back.

This doesn't absolve the owners and sporting directors for appointing Rosenior and for its poor transfer strategy, but at least it goes some way to contextualising why last season was so poor.

Hopefully with this chapter now closing, we usher in a new and successful era under Xabi Alonso. Really looking forward to him starting. His coaching record makes for far better reading than Maresca.

 
I am very surprised so many fans think this is a positive news.

There is chance if pool come calling in 2/3 seasons, Alonso will also want to go.

Why? They are currently a bigger and better run club. Why is this any worse than a player declaring that they want to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona. We just shrug our shoulders and accept it as inevitable when this happens.

This is my point, I don't think I have seen any of the top 8 team manager willingly leave their team to coach other team.

It is usually a bit harder for manager to be willing to move team as they usually have spent a lot of time/effort to train/building their team.

More about the long and fat contracts? potter for one took a long sabbatical until his contract ran out.

 
Strange statement by the club IMO.

Despitetheir intentions, Maresca has actually come out if this looking very professional.

Found out about City's interest, immediately notified Chelsea about the approach and made his intentions clear so they could plan for it. Also paid the club compensation in line with his contractual obligations. No cloak and dagger stuff on his part.

Ultimately, he's in his rights to take better opportunities when they come along. Just like it's in the clubs rights to sack him if they decide they want someone else.

Very strange and the irony to say no club wants to change its head coach midway like they have never done it toward other clubs before.

It's also strange with the outrage here toward maresca considering he's not rated and many would like him gone anyway. Instead of the standard sack-payout, this time Chelsea actually got compensation. They should be happy but instead they're getting all personal over this case. I think some people just have the tendency looking something to blame to vent their anger when things went wrong but maresca is the wrong target in this case due to the fact he's not really wanted here anyway.

 
I’m struck by a sense that in the last 24 hours the much ridiculed and largely dismissed World Club Cup victory has suddenly gone up in estimation by the sports press and particularly City fans.

 
Not a fan of Maresca, but since he had those conversations they have signed Semenyo, Guehi, Anderson, and about to sign and loan back Bouaddi.
