Most embarrasing turn out

The worst was Tottenham in 75, maybe that was a bit of a turning point as after that you could guarantee that Chelsea would show up.
Always wondered how true the tale is that some of our main faces got caught up in a card game or something and didn't move up to the Lane with their firms or was it just a bad day at the office? It just had to be those c**ts!

the reason being that they were all locked out, but seeing that not many used to turn up there in previous years, no suprise really. How is it then that they would take more to Coventry for example than Arsenal, Spurs or West Ham?

Never been able to fathom that out either. I can only presume it was down to the reputation certain clubs had at the time, which deterred some from going.

Maybe the 70's lads preferred the trips out of London, fresh air and all that!

you can replace the word "some" with "a lot". Chelsea in the early seventies were a bit of an easy touch in London, home and away.

I was there at Tottenham in 75 met at Liverpool St and got the train to White Hart Lane we had quite a good mob but when we got to the ground all the gates were locked apart from one in the Paxton end a few got in before that one was shut.

The trouble with Chelsea in those days we was too fragmented, did not organise, didn't go anywhere early and preferred to be in the pub.

I remember being in a pub with a few faces at a home game against West Ham when the door opened with a young lad saying West Ham were in the Shed the response was they would rather be in the pub we'll sort them out later which to be fair we gave it a go on the way to the ground and afterwards.

We were a young firm compared to West Ham in them days going down to second division for a couple of seasons giving a good account against Millwall and we came back much older wiser and harder first firm to go to Man U in big numbers and run them for example

Sums it up.

Loved a beer (and Vodka).

you are right about Chelsea always going in late, they would have taken the North Bank Highbury in the League cup game but showed at kick off. The next season got in there early and ...

Yet on the rare occasion, got it together when not expected. I posted elsewhere on here, back in 1971 at the game at Upton Park, when standing in the South Bank, i watched the good mob from Stockwell ( ?) steam into the North Bank for several minutes. Had'nt expected that!. Ironically numbers wise, our firm in the North bank numbered more than we had mustered at the time in the South Bank!.

So many top fella's from Tops firms have quoted us in books or tv as the mob they have had most grief with including Spammers and spuds. Maybe sometimes we are our worst press. We may of never achieved the results of West ham etc but on our day we took it to any team on any occasion. I still remember the turn outs away at man city, Leeds and Wednesday when we were division 2, credit were credit is due!

Wasnt around for all the action in the 70s and 80s/90s. Most recent embarassment was europa league when we played steau bucharest at home. There were loads of them dotted around the west stand and nothing was done about it. Though with CCTV I guess nothing can be done

For starters they should'nt have been allowed in at the West Stand turnstiles. Not difficult to recognise those guys, who have thicker hair on their eyebrows than many of us now have on our heads!

Secondly, the guy who invented CCTV deserves to be Tar and Feathered, and flogged to an inch of his life.

Thicker hair on their eyebrows than many of us now have on our heads, quality comment and sadly true! Like I said before, grass doesn't grow on a busy street. These days its almost a home game for Romanians and I agree shouldn't of been allowed in.

yeh it is pretty stupid to have the tickets saying home supporters only and then let in these geezers wearing steau hats

I had an argument.with stewards and juve fans last season in the west lower. My point was what the f**k are they doing in with home fans. Clubs a joke in that sence.

As did I. My mate and I went down to the stewards but they claimed they couldnt do anything about, saying they didnt have enough staffing. We got a couple of the Steau fans ejected but Im sure plenty of chels fans would be more than happy to 'escort' the steau fans out

Regards away fans in home areas, most of us football fans are hypocrites when it comes to things like that, ive been in many home ends when following Chelsea away & its given me some of the best buzzes & laughs(i started a thread on the actual subject on here)

but ive also had it with a few WHU in the west lower when they beat us 1.0 in 98? there was no way i was going to let any away fan especially WHU celebrate in our end.

The problem with modern day football & this country in general is, when we play Italian/Romanian/Turkish clubs for example, they'll have 100s poss 1,000s of ex pats living in London & the South East so will always turn up in numbers, Galatasary in 99 had about 4/500 in one whole block of the west lower, an area CFC had left unavailable to us CFC fans knowing London turks would be in our ends so rather than chance it going off allocated them an extra area after the official away end had sold out.

While i dont like away fans in our ends, i also dont like our fans or any fans for that matter to grass fellow football fans up, we're all made of the same cloth just in different colours, stick the nut on em by all means but dont go running to stewards like snivelling little school kids, if you dont want to stick the nut on em then at least have a go at em verbally, we're Chelsea ffs.

(No offence meant to anyone on here but its something i feel strongly about)

I was already after having an argument with a juve fan in a pub in Gloucester rd. Dirty Italian kept staring at my little niece.

Was that the west ham game Steve lomas got sent off in? I was at that at plenty of hammers in west lower. I think you took me up wrong I wasn't grassing on the juve fans I was saying to the steward f**k them out or else I'll end up getting f**ked out. My blood was boiling. It was the first time my niece was at a game and she.was feeling uncomfortable and I'm very protective of her. What pissed me off was I was the only one that was having ago ay them.

I cant remember who scored to be honest mate, the game was a must win as we were still in the title race, i didnt mean to come across as digging you out, i meant fans grassing in general its even worse when its fellow Chelsea fans grassing up our own fans, something that happens more often than not now days sadly.
