Poch In or Out? The Mega-thread Merged

After today’s pathetic performance, I’d be all for giving Poch the sack. But, I’m on the fence because I don’t think any good coach is available. I don’t want Mou or Conte back, I think that they are well past it and would be a mistake to give them the job just like it was to appoint Frank last season.

On the fence. I expected more from Pochettino at this point.

Our performance against Wolves has really shaken my confidence in him now.

Ideally, I want to see out the season with him and review his future at seasons end.

Difficult to mount a yes case for Poch. What's helping his cause is there aren't many ( if few) good candidates out there, the top ones will go after Liverpool & Barca, even the good ones could target Milan or Napoli job, whoever left could target us, Brighton, Leverkuson etc.  But, if this downward spiral continues, lightening may strike twice for another interim

This is what we're suppose to pay scouts for though.

Even if it's not a top class option I refuse to believe there's not a manager lurking somewhere who's philosophy suits these players.

Even if it's someone relatively unknown like Iraola or ironically Poch himself when he arrived at Southampton, we need to get this bunch adequately coached and have us enjoying what we're seeing again. Then once we're settled and producing respectable performances and results we can worry about whether said manager can take the next leap with us.

It should be noted that he has been given 2 months longer than Potter has, including a full pre season, and hasn't had to deal with European games.

Though in his favour, he has also got us to a domestic cup final, though Potter had gotten us into the Champions League quarter final

And Potter's last game against Aston Villa was miles better than the performance we put out against Wolves.

I think Poch is done for. But I’d be surprised if the Board sack him now. They’d want to try and go for a new manager over the summer rather than with a few months of the season to go. Unless there’s someone already at the club who can step up and do a temporary job. But I couldn’t even tell you who our current assistant manager is.

It’s going to be brutal but I got a feeling we’re lumbered with him till the end of the season. We’ll then have a “review” and give him the boot.

Hansi Flick would be available straight away

He didn't do great with Germany but national team management is a lot different, his Bayern side that smashed Barca 8-2 were something special.

Manager does not matter.

Bring back Jose, watch him flop like Lamps did with this lot.

With these players (most of them) and this ownership and directors you are set to fail.

Poch did better ar Spurs under Daniel Levy, the butt of our jokes for decades. Let that percolate

Same was said about Potter and oh look, Lamps made it worse, so has Poch.

Who is the answer Argo?

Well i was mocked for somewhat defending Potter at the very end and this is why.

As with my response to @RMH there's nothing that can convince me there's not a manager out there who's philosophy suits the players we have. If it's a top one or not is by the by at this point (cross that Bridge when we need to) but if we look hard enough they'll be an Iraola type out there somewhere.

I was in the backing Potter camp too mate, we were starting to finally move a little bit forward and boom, off he goes in comes Lamps to buy the owners a bit of Grace.

See this is where I think the jist of my point you missed.

When I say the manager does not matter, I mean he does not matter because of whom is hiring him.

Whether it is the ownership, who know sod all about our game, and who picked these idiotic directors, or said directors. Either way we Cannot "trust the process" of picking a replacement for Poch as they will get it wrong.

It is as big a certainty as Spurs bottling.

Crucial 6 months for the club. Possible FFP breaches, historic dodgy accounting, another manager probably and no bastarding striker.

Yeah, who wouldn’t want the job? Pep would struggle to turn us around as would any manager.

Literally every part of “the plan” is failing.
House of cards.

I backed him until today because he’s never even come close to fielding his best 11 due to injuries but today was a car crash and not too many managers manage to turn things around when the fans turn.

Owners do need a scape goat as a fair bit of fury was turned on them. Rightfully so as well.

I wonder I any of those infamous "Chelsea hooligans" are still around.

Good call. Let's go right to the top. Let's get a Todd Bot running the place instead of a Toss Pot

Not 100% sure why Bard is convinced it's still 2022 considering it's supposed to be internet-connected, but here we are. Penultimate paragraph suggests that it still would have a better handle on our transfer strategy than Clearlake/Winstanley/Stewart:

Predicting the perfect transfer targets for Chelsea is tough, as their needs depend on several factors, including:

Squad weaknesses: Which areas need immediate improvement? Defense? Midfield creativity? Striking power? Managerial vision: What style of play does Tuchel want to implement? Does it require specific player profiles? Financial constraints: How much is the club willing to spend, considering recent investments and potential FFP regulations? Market availability: Which players are realistic targets given their contracts, club situations, and asking prices?

However, based on current analysis and reports, here are some potential areas Chelsea could address in the summer transfer window:

Striker:

  • Victor Osimhen (Napoli): Prolific goalscorer, physically strong, but might come with a hefty price tag.
  • Lautaro Martinez (Inter Milan): Technically gifted, good movement, proven in a strong league, but Inter might demand a high fee.
  • Jonathan David (Lille): Young, versatile, good pressing ability, but might need time to adapt to the Premier League.

Central midfielder:

  • Declan Rice (West Ham): Excellent defensive midfielder, leadership qualities, but West Ham might be reluctant to sell.
  • Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund): Highly talented box-to-box midfielder, huge potential, but likely to attract interest from many clubs.
  • Franck Kessie (AC Milan): Strong, experienced, good at ball distribution, but might not be suited to Tuchel's possession-based style.

Center-back:

  • Milan Skriniar (Inter Milan): Composed, versatile, good on the ball, but Inter might demand a high fee.
  • Josko Gvardiol (RB Leipzig): Young, physically strong, good ball-playing ability, but might be out of Chelsea's price range.
  • Evan Ndicka (Eintracht Frankfurt): Tall, strong, good in aerial duels, but might lack the technical ability compared to other options.

Full-back:

  • Noussair Mazraoui (A**x): Versatile, defensively solid, contributes offensively, but Bayern Munich might be strong competition.
  • Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen): Pace, attacking threat, but his defensive positioning might raise concerns.
  • Emerson Royal (Tottenham Hotspur): Solid defensively, decent crossing ability, but lacks creativity compared to other options.

Remember, these are just suggestions, and the actual transfer targets will depend on various factors. It's crucial to assess each player's fit within the squad, playing style, and financial constraints before making any definitive statements.

It's also important to consider internal development. Perhaps players like Broja, Gallagher, or Colwill could step up and fill potential gaps before resorting to expensive transfers.

Stay tuned for the summer transfer window, as it promises to be an exciting one for Chelsea and the Premier League!
