Poch In or Out? The Mega-thread Merged

TheSecretScout hinting the club are already tapping up Alonso.

I don’t know who we should bring in anymore. Clear as day though this team needs discipline and organization.

Spurs is spurs, we saw even with a serial winner like Conte they couldn't do anything. The options we have are incredibly limited, even more limited when considering managers available now, he's an experienced coach that knows what it means to be Chelsea manager, if that sort of mentality can be brought in from the manager to show the board and the players it can only be a good thing.
I don't buy that whatsoever, if our scouts did their job properly they'll be able to identify dozens of coaches who are better fits for us than this current version of Jose.

As for Spurs being Spurs, there's a reason he had to resort to going there in the first place.

A manager change will not have much impact without a strategy change.

We need to change things upstairs first.

If we do change the manager it is important that he does not have a shared vision with the footballing dwarf that is Todd Boehly. ( Just one of Tuchels strong points)

Serious question, what do we actually do in training in the week?

We don't even move the ball fast enough to pull teams out of shape.

We play so slow that when we lose the ball we make the opposition look like they have a bunch of Usan Bolts flying at us.

Watching Arsenal and Liverpool play and comparing it to how we play is night and day.

I feel sorry for Poch in that we have gone full out on young inexperienced players, mostly form different leagues as well, but surely there should be signs of improvement if you train every week day.

Poch in. This isna recruitment issue. The players we’ve signed are either too inexperienced or not good enough.  Sacking Poch will do nothing.

Someone name me a replacement who is available and would choose us over the other clubs..I can’t think of one decent option.
That's a crap excuse my man. 4 out of 11 starters today were PL/CL winners.

In addition to those 4 we had 26 year old Nkunku who's previously been a star in Germany and Champions League. We had Caicedo who as late as last season was considered better than Declan Rice and one of the very best midfielders in the league. We had Enzo who was also considered one of the brightest midfield talents in the world as late as last year and so on.

I am on the fence

I am not sure what anyone can do with these players, maybe get an initial bounce when a new manager comes in but I can’t see it making a difference in the long term

and who would replace him? Jose would be great but I got the feeling he has had his day, needs to move onto his long awaited international role.

I just don’t think our season can be salvaged from here.  Can’t see is getting past Villa and beating the dippers in the cups….. might be able to salvage a European place with a bit of fair wind

pffffffff…. Already looking at next season it’s only February - this is what it must feel like to be. Tottenham fan 😂

Voted poch in, but not because he has done anything to make me think he has a clue.

He has been shockingly bad.

But, there have been a load of curveballs thrown his way, new players to integrate and a motherf**ker of an injury crisis.

He should have done better

An elite manager would probably have done better

But the thought of another setback is tiring....we can't keep pressing reset. We knew there would be ups and downs - at the moment it feels like there are lots of downs and very few ups - but I have not yet exhausted my patience.

On the fence.

For

1. At the start of the season I'd have said we need to back a manager for this project to work. Sacking him would be going back to the old Chelsea model but we had better players back then.

2. Who do we replace him with? Everyone we could get is a risk.

3. Our players are young and potentially just poor. Would anyone do better?

4. Got a final coming up and could still finish in the European places.

Against

1. We have no recognisable tactics. I watch us and I'm genuinely confused about what we're trying to do.

2. Enzo and Caicedo. Looked like world beaters elsewhere. Look bereft of ideas under Poch. Does he make players better?

3. The results.

Verdict

Review at the end of the season

That's just complete nonsense. May as well say we're "potentially" the Premier League winners, potentially in the Champions League final next season.
Not nonsense at all.

We are already in one cup final, it’s not unreasonable to think we could get to the FA Cup final as well. Especially considering we’ve made the final 3 times the past 4 years.

It's the 4th round for God's sake 🤣

Never wanted him in the first place. The guy has always been a loser. Tactically very poor, doesn't have his own style, doesn't makes a single good substitution, doesn't improve players, players become ill disciplined under him, horrible at setting a team up defensively. The worst thing of all is that he hasn't changed a single thing about the style of football we play. Good coaches are capable of changing the style of a squad the moment they arrive. We don't even look like a team. It's just a bunch of individuals looking completely clueless. None of them play a system that suits them.

Doesn't matter if he does get the sack though because our owners are so clueless that they would probably find somebody just as sh*t to replace him. Probably can't even afford to sack him either because they have spent so much money on barely Premier League quality footballers.
I agree with all of this.

However, I did try to convince myself that it would be a good appointment because he was a fitness disciplinarian and had a good organisational structure.  Fck me was I wrong.

I tried to ignore the references to Spurs, thinking it's a little churlish of us. Again was I ever wrong. Sadly this guy is the epitome of Spursyness.

He has not improved a single player, there is no structure,  the players and team as a whole are deteriorating. Somehow we have mugged our way into a cup final and some are trying to pass this off as progress. Nah. This guy has to be bombed, he is miles out of his depth. How comically and cringingly ridiculous do his comments look upon his arrival. He's been here 9 months, and has admitted he doesn't have anyone to organise set pieces.

But as others have said, the manager is the easy route for sacking. Its Winstanley and Stewart that need throwing in the sh*tpan as well. A couple of shysters that have come in here and convinced the ropey, dopey, gullible owners that the world's finest football talents are all under 20 years of ages and despite them all playing in farmers leagues we should pay more than top dollar and then lob them all into the most competitive league in European football. Bunch of tossers have to be bombed with immediate effect.

I pray that this is not already irreversible.  I think that they have all probably set us back 10 or more years with this ridiculously arrogant and egotistical approach to a business that they know absolutely nothing about. At this point I am getting nervous that these clowns and the continual sh*t decisions and appointments they have made don't actually take us to the brink of financial ruin.

It's the time for that poll!

I've always said since Tuchel started dropping off that the problem is deeper than the manager, but it must be making a difference at the moment! We are shocking! Honestly worse than Potter!

(Will probably merge this with the main thread once the polling is done)
Can you merge this thread with the polls on Potter and Lampard and perhaps give it more generic title? And give it one of those priority thingies so it's first in the subforum? That would be so helpful the next 10 years. Ta!

It's out for me. He's had enough time to forge this group of players into something coherent and he's failed. It might be that we've bought poorly but at the very least you'd expect a competent manager to make us hard to beat. We're a shambles.

I think poch is clearly not doing a great job but if you sack him and the next manager play the same player than nothing will change.
A new manager would have no choice but to play the same players, we can't afford to change many of them but Poch cannot seem to get this group to play together consistently. Maybe we need a more disciplined approach to get a better performance from the players we've got

I'm still for keeping him here and giving him the season. But I'll be lying to myself if I think we'll see any improvements.

Sadly that Wolves game lit up a red flag more than any other game this season, it tells me things are about to get worse. We should beat Crystal Palace even if on an off day, they are terrible, but Poch's persistence with keeping the same midfield is going to see us in the bottom half of the table come the end of the season.

And that cup final? I don't think I've ever been less optimistic for a cup final before.
