Rangers 2023-2024

Rangers v Hibs. Scottish Cup Final Second Replay. 28th May 1979. Rangers won 3-2 after extra time. The first two games were awful matches. Both 0-0 draws and very bad 0-0 draws at that.

There wasn’t any tv coverage of this game. Don’t think any film footage actually exists of it.

The official attendance was 30,602 at this second replay and the terracing shows the lack of interest.

Rangers 3-1 Celtic, Drybrough Cup Final, 4th August 1979. Sandy Jardine completes a penalty box to penalty box run by crashing a superb shot for a great solo goal. This goal is often unfairly overlooked in comparison to Davie Cooper's second half classic. This goal from Sandy was as good a Rangers goal as I’ve ever seen.

Yes, a great goal by Sandy. This video shows the goals. Sadly, only part of Sandy's run up the park.

Watched this earlier. About John Greig who was voted Greatest Ever Rangers. A great player who led Rangers through some difficult times e.g. the dominance of Celtic in the mid-sixties to mid-seventies and the Ibrox Disaster but also was there when they won the Cup Winners Cup Final in 1972. Also played in the 1967 game between England and Scotland. A great player and man who understands what Rangers means. Having a statue of him outside Ibrox is testimony to what he means to Rangers. Appropriate that the statue is on top of the plinth to remember the 66. @erskblue, @Scott and @carrickblue worth watching.

Visiting family in Larkhall for a few days. Larkhall is not far from Glasgow and is full of Rangers fans. A few Chelsea fans as well. Whilst there I'll head to Ibrox to visit the Rangers Museum and may spend a few bob in the club shop. Will also take a look at the statue of Walter Smith. I've seen photos of the statue and it looks very impressive.

A great time at Ibrox and in the Rangers Museum with two of my cousins. The Museum is very impressive with some great stuff on display. Pictures to follow.

WATP.

After visiting Ibrox, me and cousins visited the graves of some of the most important people in the history of Rangers.

In the Rangers Museum. A great picture. Some Rangers greats in the picture. Several hundred million pounds of talent. The bottom picture is of Willie Johnston, Sandy Jardine, John Greig and Colin Stein celebrating winning the Cup Winners Cup in 1972.

From left to right in the group picture: Allan McGregor, Davie Cooper, Jim Baxter, Alan Morton, David Meiklejohn, Tom Vallance, Willie Johnston, John Greig, Sandy Jardine, Colin Stein, Willie Waddell, Graeme Souness, Bill Struth, Walter Smith, Steven Gerrard, James Tavernier, Richard Gough, Steven Davis, Eric Caldow, Barry Ferguson, Willie Woodburn, Jock Shaw, George Young, Brian Laudrup and Ally McCoist.

I appreciate that these types of pictures are subjective and have to cover all eras but I would include the likes of Jock Wallace, Andy Goram, Willie Thornton, Bob McPhail, Tom Forsyth and Tom McLean. As I wrote, it's subjective but imagine a team with Morton, Cooper and Baxter playing together.

Boyne: Great five wingers in Rangers colours.

Wee Willie Henderson. Bud Johnston, Mark Walters, Davie Wilson and Davie Cooper.

Davie Wilson was a fantastic player and once scored five goals in a single match, away at Falkirk in the early ish 1960s.

Indeed. Have the privilege of seeing Bud, Mark Walters and Davie Cooper play. Bizarre that Walters only played one game for England. Equally bizarre that the other four didn't play many games for Scotland but competition for places in the national side was high. After last night's result and performance Scotland could do with an out and out winger.
