scariest ground

I always liked going to Bristol, but to this day I can never remember which of the Bristol clubs is which. I remember the one in the middle of the city, we always went to a pub called the Three Blackbirds. The other Bristol club was on the outskirts, or at least you'd get there via a motorway turnoff some way before the city centre. I think it was this one we had a series of FA Cup replays against. I remember going to all of them and having all kinds of fun.

City are all, by definition, gay pikeys. There sh*t hole was down near the centre, in the middle of a car breakers yard full of scrap transits. It's mostly caravansa and homeless people now, as if the homeless didn't have enough to put up with.

Rovers were out at the studpendous Eastville ( sadly now and Ikea ) and were very nice, caring, sharing folk who would have welcomed you in with open arms and a flagon of their finest scrumpy.

That's how you tell the difference :)

Got it now. Also Rovers play in blue, City play in red.

And as we all know, teams who play in blue are (with the occasional exception - think London W12) naturally and intrinsically superior to those that play in red.

bristol rovers was by the moterway, Chelsea tried to get in the tote end in the night game in 76 but were pushed back by the old bill, on the train i remember that you had to go through temple meads. Both Plymouth games were lively and i remember that the leaderof the time asked everybodyto hold hands in the park afterwaedbefore attacking the Plymoutth. Also the west brom game in 75

You got it Hutch :)

It was Rovers that brought me to the Chels - You had to have a proper team as well as Rovers and they had to be blue. This was mid-60's, I picked Chelsea and I been here ever since!

And, a lot of crews tried to get into the Tote - not many did the Rovers boys need the help of the bill :)

That was something that I think you could refer to as being conflicted!

My most 'scarey' experiences were at these grounds, not all envolving Chelsea.

Ninian Park

St Andrews

sh*te Heart Lane

Elm Park

Ayresome Park

i once went to Luton with Millwall mates and was escorted back to the station with a massive mob of luton following behind, i have spoke to other fans of london clubs and that was not as easy as people think especially if you tried to get in their end, and Millwall got in but didnt take it

Cambridge, was that not the game in 83 where one of their geysers got a lot of bird and was all over the papers. Did we not win 1-0 ? Or am i thinking about the game we won when pop robson scored
I stand to be corrected sec, but I think you're wrong on both games, it was the 84 promotion year game at Cambridge where it went off big, one of the St Helier boys was caught up in it and got a bit of a shoeing.

Who was the fella from St Helier who got a kicking? just initals will do, only asking because a cousin of mine used to run with Chelsea now & then until he turned into a villain because in his words "there's no money in rucking at the football" he also used to drink in a certain pub on the st helier estate, he's sadly no longer with us.

The game went it went mental was in the 80/81 season. We used to always win at Cambridge, in the main 1-0, as you say Pop Robson

scored the winner once, Gary Johnson seems to ring a bell as well.

From the walk from to the station there was a sort of park thing with a concrete tunnel that was a nightmare leading to the terraces about six steps high

at our end.

It kicked off long before we got in the ground not there, but on the road leading to the Cambridge end.

When we got to the ground the turnstiles were jammed with Chelsea and they let us all in because it was by then kicking off outside their end.

Think the gate was declared as 8,000 or so, it was complete bollox. We were jammed in like sardines and loads of Chels climbed floodlight pilons

and were standing on top of the stand to the left of us.

It was typical of the East at that time, was once at Norwich and they crammed thousands of us in that poxy end next to the Barclay End with wire

separating us from them. It was Micky Greenaway superb in the stand on the left always singing but never in our bit, it was hillsborough waiting to happen.

Back on subject,

I'd say West Ham by a country mile as the scariest both home and at pikeypark.

Cardiff away and once at Newcastle make up my top 3.

Anyone been to any scary european games? What was Galatasary like in 1999?
Never been but the Turks have a strong knife culture that many will be oblivious to, eg I believe its still legal to knife someone in the backside for certain matters...

In Italy their Ultra's tend to stab rival lads below the belt because if caught they get a lesser sentence than if they stabbed someone above the waist, as for Galatasary some older CFC went & took it to the turks who didnt want to know, they all admitted it could have got very dodgy for them hence the reason to get in first which the turks didnt expect, saying that the lads involved have been at it for over 35 years at home & abroad so knew the score.

Doesn't get much more sly than that.

Also, wasn't long after our 5-0 visit that the two Leeds fans died? following season was it?

Crazy bar stewards out there.

What are your experiences of the Italian aways? I understand the police are a bit of a nightmare when it comes

to English fans?

A knife wound in the arse takes a long time to heal, every movement walking or sitting down causes it to open up again.

The closest I have ever heard of such stories is in green street hooligans , although this thread has been much more enlightening than that.

Oh , and I found about 20 drunk blue fans in LA in the parking lot after beckham's debut against us there , throwing glasses at em and chanting something on the lines of 'you will never play in europe' !

You're saying American (probably Californians?) Chelsea supporters were taunting Beckham and Galaxians? That's pathetic to do as an American, even if one doing it is a Chelsea supporter.

You should be proud of your local team, too. I love our NT and I'm a big follower of Finnish football.

Not really saying you ought to be a big fan of your national team and local football, but I don't understand people who aren't. It's more than a little silly to shout abuse at a player from your local club wearing a foreign team's colours.

I remember back in the day when Liverpool played FC Haka in Finland. Liverpool is very well supported in Finland, always has and always will, which is quite natural considering that both Litmanen and Hyypiä played there. However, when Liverpool met Haka in Europe, the whole Olympic Stadium in Helsinki was packed with Finns wearing their Liverpool jerseys, commenting about how s**t Finnish football is and chanting in a fake scouse accent. Embarrasing and stupid, to say the least.
