Maxence Lacroix

Mix review from the description I get out there. At one point he is described to be the best 1-on-1 defender, which is always a plus for me, but at another, it's said there is still a gap between him and guehi who I do not rate that highly.

It' good to have a pacey CB but more importantly it's the brain like thiago silva, vincent kompany that is needed to marshal the defence.
Who says it will be him doing the marshalling?

Here's an idea. Why don't we wait and see?
Fully agree. I'm not getting a lot of the comments on here over the last few weeks. Too many glass half empty comments. It's been piss poor for 4 years, and when we can all surely agree on, the direction of travel is what we have been crying out for at least the last 3 years. My humble opinion, I'm actually feeling a little positive for once. As you say, let's wait and see.

What kind of balanced response is that?! Can't you just find an extreme viewpoint based on practically nothing like a proper forum member?
You are my role model. Klompen and all.

Glass half empty is the standard pub order around here. So much easier to whinge and grizzle.

Great signing.

PL experience, fast & good in the air.

Exactly the kind of moves we should be making.

Instant starter and instant upgrade on any of the other frog options at CB.

Let's just hope this 🐸is more Desailly and less Fofana.
Unfortunately for every Desailly or LeBouef there’s a Fofana, a Badiashille, a Disasi, a Gusto, a Amouga, a Ugochukwo, a Charvet or a Lambourde (Jury remains out on Sarr)

There’s a War related joke somewhere in there about French Defenders to make I’m sure.

We do do a lot better up the other end of the pitch though recruiting from there.

This thread needs to be buzzing. Lacroix is one of the best 1v1 defenders in the league, period; Rudiger 2.0. A big weakness was the complete inability of any defender to deal with long balls over the top, and Lacroix fixes that instantly.

A comparison point for fans to monitor as season progresses.

January, we were close to signing Jeremy Jacques, highly rated youngster. Joined Liverpool for £60M.

We sign Lacroix for £52M, PL and international experience. Sure there is a 5 year age difference and projected high ceiling for Jacquet - it’s just rare we’re on this side of this type of transfer.

Realistically Lacroix is still going to be better than Jacquet in 3-5 years time, since the latter is likely 4-5 years away from his peak, and by the time he gets there there's every chance he's sold to PSG. This is exactly why the 'youth model' doesn't work.

Fantastic debut.

The last time I remember being this impressed by a centre back at Chelsea was Thiago Silva.

Calm down, I’m not saying Lacroix is going to be as good as him. But the way he reads the game, intercepts passes, took me back to Silva.

If Colwill gets back to his best, our defence will be sorted for years. Fingers crossed.

Excellent debut, won everything, 1st header lead to the opener, 2nd he got the assist for.

Fantastic to see him orchestrating the back line, and they way defended 1v1 compared to Tosin and Chalobah was remarkable.

Bad game from Colwill today, but i think there is a big potential for the back 3 whether thats with Fofana, Josh or James on that right side.

It was a pleasure (and a relief) watching him today. Hopefully he brings composure and stability to our erratic backline.

If we didn’t signed him we would be sh*tting the bed with Colwil and co.

He’s a proper defender and commands respect at the back
