Maxence Lacroix

The question with Lacroix is that what happen if he is being asked to defend big space but our setup vs Fulham was very similar to Palace so not sure this question is answered. I though he had a very good game.

I think he's excellent defending big spaces actually, I maintain he's one of the best 1v1 defenders in the league and at handling through balls into space. He is very hard to beat via balls over the top, dominates crosses. Complete opposite of Disasi or Tosin, he is a great 'sweeper'.

Where he needs to improve is the situation @Scott Harris pointed out above, where King cut inside and ran at him and Lacroix didn't react quick enough either to close him down or block the shot, hesitated, and King was able to exploit that. King may have missed but a better player scores from there.

Yeah he looks heavy when he moves .. but his timing and positioning looks good ..looks like still building up fitness…

 
Early clips, and a handful of World Cup games do show he’s a little slow on the turn. When defending infront of him, he’s looked superb. Big upgrade from all those that have departed, and might bring out better defending from Fofana.

 
I'm a bit worried about Lacroix. I think he has mobility issues that will be regularly exposed as the season goes on. He turns like a tank and it's reminding me of Koulibaly at times.

This wouldn't have been exposed as much at Palace because he played in a much more defensive side. I feel like if we ever move to a back 4, he's going to be badly exposed. He's good in 1v1 situations, but that's about it so far.

I thought it was no pre season thing but now it has been 4 games, he is very stiff.

Very harsh I would say. Would say Fofana and Colwill were worse.

On the second goal the pass wasn't even that bad and easily defendable if Josh(I think it was?) had a bit of awareness.

Wesley Fofana: The Frenchman was a physical presence at the back and dealt well enough with Brentford's long balls but was taken off for Josh Acheampong in the 72nd minute. 6

Levi Colwill: A quiet match by his high standards after being left out of the England squad. 6

He kinda remind me of Disasi

 
I liked the idea of this signing in summer but I think collectively he’s made us worse at the back. Colwill’s best position is in the middle of the back 3 so he’s now suffering having to play out wide to accommodate him. I’m also not convinced he’s better than Colwill in the middle.

We should have spent the money on someone more specialist for the outside CB role.

Colwill has done absolutely nothing to be reckoned with.

The guy was a walking mistake in his "breakout" season, then got mysteriously injured in private and missed a season and now looks even more incompetent.

United got stuck in front with Rashford, Pogba, Martial, Sancho for 5+ years, we've got their equivalents in the back.

Colwill was a revelation for us at the back before his injury and we improved once he returned at the back of last season. Clearly he’s carrying issues from the long lay off and being shifted out wide amplifies that.

I had my doubts about this signing and after a few games, those doubts are still there and even more so.

Yes, he's better than Disasi, Badiashile and Tosin. But he looks a bit limited, not that quick and has the turning circle of a cargo ship.

Still better than Fofana mind.

If he chased his guy and his guy beat him 1v1,so be it. He tried to intercept the pass. He basically turned 4 v 3 which is advantage for us to 1v1 with gk.

If he is this uncomfortable defending open space then this is a big worry

It’s early days and he’s done ok but I’m not seeing the commanding CB he needs to be to play the middle of the 3. Yet.

I’m still not seeing a leader from any of our CBs to be honest.
