Rangers 2023-2024

One of the best to play for Rangers and Scotland. Would be very difficult to leave out of best ever Rangers eleven.

35 years ago Maurice Johnston signed for Rangers. To say that it caused surprise and controversy is an understatement. I remember reading a headline in the London Evening Standard that Johnston had signed for Rangers. My first reaction was that the paper was referring to QPR. It was only when reading the article that it was about the only true Rangers. London papers had a habit of calling QPR Rangers. Poor journalism.

Supporters of the big two in Glasgow were angry, shocked etc for many reasons.

I can still clearly remember the Maurice Johnston signing for Rangers 35 years on.

There was actually an article in a Scottish Sunday newspaper, shortly before he signed for Rangers saying he was signing for Rangers! I instantly dismissed it, thinking ‘Never going to happen!’  A few days later…

From 1973 when Rangers played A**x. Cruyff in the presence of greatness.

Think that might well be Andy Cunningham and Jock ‘Tiger’  Shaw standing to the right of John Greig.
The inaugural European Supe Cup. Jan 1973 at Ibrox. Cruyff was outstanding that night and scored a brilliant goal according to my old man who attended the match

Yes, Andy Cunningham and Jock Shaw.

A shame that it didn't work out for Fleck at Chelsea. Put a lot of hard work into the game. His song is still sung occasionally.
Agreed. In very early 1986-87 he was so nearly sold to Dundee for £25,000. Terms had been agreed, but Dundee couldn’t raise the £25,000 transfer fee. It fell through.Fleck remained at Rangers.

A week or so later, new striker Colin West got injured, Fleck was given a chance and immediately hit a great partnership with Ally McCoist. Scoring 22 goals in 48 appearances!

In December 1987, Fleck surprising moved to Norwich for £575,000. ‘A bit more’ than the £25,000 he so nearly was sold to Dundee for in August 1986.

Looks like Colin Jackson next to John Greig. Can't see Colin Stein. Perhaps he was between Bomber and Doddie.

RANGERS confirm agreement has been finalised with both the Scottish FA and SPFL for the use of Hampden Park for the club’s home fixtures in the early part of the 2024/25 season.

Further to last week’s update, the club is continuing work at pace on detailed plans for the transition to the National Stadium.

While the Ask Rangers site seeks to address immediate questions, further information will be delivered to our season ticket holders and seasonal hospitality clients as we progress the situation.

At this stage, the club can announce our William Hill Scottish Premiership matches with Motherwell on Saturday, 10 August and Ross County on Saturday 24 August will be played at Hampden, with both matches kicking-off at 3pm.

With draws still to be made for the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round and potential play-off round, plus a potential home tie in the Premier Sports Cup, the club will communicate news on dates and kick-off times for them once the information is confirmed.

The club is continuing to work tirelessly on the Copland Stand project at Ibrox to complete that as soon as possible. As soon as the club can provide a definitive update on matches returning to our home, it will do so.

Rangers again puts on record its thanks to the Scottish FA and the SPFL for their considerable work in reaching this solution.

Above all, the club thanks our supporters for their ongoing patience and understanding as we deal with this challenge.

Colin Stein injured the hand of goalkeeper Peter McCloy in the warm up! Stewart Kennedy hurriedly replaced him just before kick off. The second half of this game was shown live up here in Scotland.
A very good St Etienne team won the match 2-0 and would go all the way to the European Cup Final at Hampden in May 1976. Losing unfortunately to Bayern Munich.

Fantastic picture. Love all the wee blue cars at the front!😀
Ah, the blue cars. If I remember correctly they stopped being used sometime in the 80s and were replaced with the mobility scooters. I remember seeing the blue cars on the roads.
